How long are your performances?

Can I purchase tickets at the door on the day of a show instead of purchasing in advance?

Yes, absolutely, as long as that particular performance is not sold out. If a show date has sold out, the TYKEs outgoing telephone message immediately provides that information - simply call 585/723-6080 for up-to-the-minute seating availability. If you purchase tickets in advance, your seating is guaranteed - we never over-sell our seats.

Do you provide reserved seats or general admission tickets?

All TYKEs performances offer general admission tickets only. For the very best selection of seats, plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to show time (you may wish to arrive even earlier if you opt to purchase tickets at the door).

Can I call the TYKEs box office an hour or two before show time just to make sure tickets are still available at the door?

Unfortunately, no. Our box office staff is already at the theatre at this point. Our box office telephone line rings in our administrative office, which is located in a different building. On show dates, tickets are available for purchase at the door beginning one hour prior to show time.

I'm a subscriber. Can I exchange my tickets for another performance of the same show?

Yes - this is one of the great benefits of subscribing to TYKEs! Subscribers can exchange their tickets free of charge by contacting the TYKEs box office 24 hours in advance.

What happens if I miss a performance but I already paid for my tickets?

If your show date has already passed and you realize that you've missed a TYKEs performance, you may wish to use your tickets as a tax write off. Because TYKEs is a non-profit organization, your ticket fee is tax deductible to the full extent of the law IF you do not see the performance (since no services were received in exchange for your payment). OR, if you are a subscriber and we have available seats for a future performance date of the same show, there is a chance we MAY be able to exchange your tickets for another date, depending on ticket sales. Call the box office at 585/461-2000, x-235 to discuss this special circumstance. Please note that we cannot offer ticket refunds.

I bought tickets but now I cannot attend the show on that date. Can I give my tickets to someone else?

Certainly! TYKEs gift certificates are also available if you'd like to give the gift of theatre!

Where is TYKEs' theatre located?

Our performances take place in the beautiful Hart Theater at the JCC, 1200 Edgewood Avenue in Brighton (Rochester, NY 14618). Get Directions

Where can I park once I arrive at the theatre?

There is ample, well-lit off-street parking in the JCC's parking lot, just a few steps from the doors to the building. There is no charge for parking!

Where do I go once I arrive at the TYKEs building?

Just go right in the side doors of the JCC, across from the parking lot. Don't worry - you can't miss the theater once you enter. Restrooms are directly across from the doors to the theater.

How do you determine the age recommendations for each show?

Age recommendations for each play are based on a number of factors including the written script, whether it contains abstract or concrete themes, the amount and nature of the dialogue, and the show's length. Our age recommendations are general guidelines only; caregivers are encouraged to make the final decision as to when their child is old enough to enjoy TYKEs performances. We've noticed that children who are able to sit attentively to a 30-minute age-appropriate television show are often able to fully enjoy a TYKEs performance.

May I bring my infant to a show?

Most of TYKEs' shows are recommended for children ages 4 and older, but infants are welcome and certainly may enjoy sitting on your lap. (Please note that all children who enter the theater must have a ticket. Lap seat tickets are sold at a discounted rate of $6... for the comfiest seat in the house!) If your child becomes very vocal or cries during a performance, our lobby area offers ample space for more active play.

Is there an intermission during the plays?

Yes, our shows typically offer a 10 to 15 minute intermission. Affordably priced 100% fruit juice, bottled water and delicious baked cookies are available during intermission as well! All proceeds benefit TYKEs and help us pay for costumes, sets and props!

When should we arrive for a weekend matinee?

The doors to the theatre open 30 minutes prior to show time. Tickets (for purchase or pick up) are available beginning one hour prior to show time. If you must arrive late to a show, don't panic - we'll still have your paid reservation waiting for you at the door.

Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?

Yes! The Hart Theater at the JCC meets all the codes of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and is fully accessible to patrons in wheelchairs (and strollers!). Restrooms are wheelchair accessible as well.

Are TYKEs shows interpreted for the hearing impaired?

One performance of each show in our season is American Sign Language interpreted by an experienced and certified interpreter from NTID/RIT. Please see our "Tickets" page for a listing of interpreted performance dates and times. One of our staff members is able to sign, and we always welcome relay calls.

What is the difference between school shows and group sales?

School shows are intended for school and home-school groups, and are scheduled on weekdays at 10 a.m. "Group sales" refers to all other groups of ten or more that receive a discount to public shows, which are scheduled on weekends.

How long are your performances?

Most of our plays are roughly 60 minutes long, not including intermission.
